Belgium took over EU Council Presidency on 1 July 2010.
The Secretary of State for Social Integration, Philippe Courard, put three priorities under the Belgian presidency: the fight against child poverty, the need for a minimum wage and tackling homelessness. The FPPS Social Integration has been active for months preparing for the presidency. Numerous studies, conferences and activities will support the political process.
The ultimate goal should be that everyone in Europe can lead a decent life. The Belgian Presidency of the European Union gives us a good opportunity to raise awareness for the need to combat poverty. Elsewhere on this site you will find a list of conferences and documents.
But we do more than just preparing conferences. With the aid of the european union, we make funding available for employment and training projects such as the "European Social Fund" and the "European Fund for the Integration of third country Nationals". We actively participate in the interpretation and implementation of the new strategy for Europe 2020 for a smart, sustainable and inclusive growth. We continuously invest in the social economy and take part in the european debates on urban development via URBACT and EUKN.
