Poverty in Belgium
In the second half of 2010, Belgium was President of the European Union. This happens during the "European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion" and was an excellent opportunity to pay special attention to the condition of poverty and social exclusion in Belgium and to the question of how poverty is made in Belgium. At the same time these events were an invitation to interpret the situation and the policies of the country in a European context. The book contains an overview of recent figures, policies and scientific research on poverty and social exclusion in Belgium. We answer several questions based on specific issues such as health, debt, child poverty, social rights, housing, integration, participation, active inclusion and the right to social integration. We also look at the role of Europe in the Belgian policy. 2010 is the year when the Lisbon Strategy expires, a new European strategy - Europe 2020 - presents itself. It is also the year when the impact of the economic crisis peaks, especially on employment. How does Belgium, the Belgian Presidency and Europe challenge these issues? This book is published in three languages (Dutch, French and English). You can download it here or order it at Acco.
