The Secretary of State for Social Integration and the Fight Against Poverty will once again award the Federal Prize for Poverty Reduction in the presence of Her Royal Highness Princess Astrid of Belgium. The Federal Prize for Poverty Reduction is one of the proposals from the Federal Poverty Reduction Plan. The Prize aims at creating an annual moment to spotlight the people who fight for reduction of poverty on a daily basis, as well as the great many solidarity activities for the underprivileged in our country.
The fight against poverty and social exclusion is one of the EU's central objectives and our shared approach has been an important tool to guide and support action in the Member States. With the rattification in march 2000 of the Lisbon strategy, the European council encouraged the Member States and the European Commisson to take measures to eradicate poverty by 2010.
