During the last Belgian European Presidency, The Secretary of State for Social Integration, Philippe Courard, had put three priorities : the fight against child poverty, the need for a minimum income and tackling homelessness. Numerous studies, conferences and activities supported the political process.
The ultimate goal was that everyone in Europe can lead a decent life. The Belgian Presidency of the European Union gave us a good opportunity to raise awareness for the need to combat poverty.
But we did and still do more than just preparing conferences. With the aid of the european union, we make funding available for employment and training projects such as the "European Social Fund" and the "European Fund for the Integration of third country Nationals". We actively participate in the interpretation and implementation of the new strategy for Europe 2020 for a smart, sustainable and inclusive growth. We continuously invest in the social economy and take part in the european debates on urban development via URBACT and EUKN.
